International speaker series – Clean energy in the transition to net zero
12 October, 2021 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Climate Change Commission is back in the UK for our next session, joining internationally renowned energy economist Michael Liebreich to explore the past, present and future of the global transition to clean energy. This session will look at what a net zero emissions energy system looks like, the role of governments in harnessing and driving innovation, and opportunities for Aotearoa in this space.
Michael is a global thought leader on clean energy, mobility, technology, climate, sustainability and finance. He is the founder and senior contributor of Bloomberg News Energy Finance, which undertakes world-leading data collection and analysis on the transition to a low carbon economy.
Michael continues to be a leading voice today on climate and energy issues around the world, as a member of numerous industry, governmental and multilateral advisory boards. Having visited Aotearoa in 2019, he is familiar with our local context and understands the opportunities and barriers in our own transition to a low emission future.
Michael runs the advisory service Liebreich Associates and hosts a weekly podcast ‘Cleaning Up’, focused on leadership in an age of climate change. Each week he is joined by a leader in clean energy, mobility, climate finance, or sustainable development to hear their experiences and insights into the global transition to low emissions.
Climate change is a global challenge. This is the tenth in our series of open Zoom sessions with international experts who have been leading climate action in their respective jurisdictions.
